Top Tips On How To Prepare For The Exam Season

Depending on whether you are in year 10 or year 11, the GCSE exam season can feel quite a bit different and for some people, it is intimidating in different ways.

Whilst you will have gone through countless SATs exams over the years, there is something different about GSCE tests, in part because it is the first point where you will do exams based on subjects you chose to take on.

However, whether you are a year 10 student worried about the upcoming exam season and the ramping up of revision prep, or a year 11 student preparing for your final school exams, know that you are not alone, and GCSE private tuition is there to help ensure you are ready.

Whilst every student’s approach is different, here are some top tips to help you get ready for upcoming exams.

Make A Flexible Plan

A hugely important part of being ready for exam season is about knowing when you need to be ready for each exam, and what you need to know for each one. This makes a study plan an essential companion, but it should not be too rigid.

Make sure it has the exam dates, study topics and a list of priorities for bits of the syllabus you are less certain about, but it should also have plenty of space for you to relax, to factor in days when you are not feeling well or when the results of a past paper suggest you need to change your priorities.

Run Your Own Race

A tutor’s job is not to tell you how to learn but to help maximise the ways you learn best.

Other students, your parents and teachers may have other tactics but ultimately you know how you learn best, and so focus on making them work for you as much as possible.

Prioritise Active Learning

If you are someone who gets bored of highlighting and constantly rereading notes, then the good news is that these are not the best ways to learn the material.

Instead, focus on more active ways of learning such as past papers, quizzes, creating revision flashcards and working with others to help study the material. All of these will help create fresh memories that will help you recall vital information during the exams themselves.
